RESUMO

To understand the dynamic interplay between the human microbiome and host during health and disease, we analyzed the microbial composition, temporal dynamics, and associations with host multi-omics, immune, and clinical markers of microbiomes from four body sites in 86 participants over 6 years. We found that microbiome stability and individuality are body-site specific and heavily influenced by the host. The stool and oral microbiome are more stable than the skin and nasal microbiomes, possibly due to their interaction with the host and environment. We identify individual-specific and commonly shared bacterial taxa, with individualized taxa showing greater stability. Interestingly, microbiome dynamics correlate across body sites, suggesting systemic dynamics influenced by host-microbial-environment interactions. Notably, insulin-resistant individuals show altered microbial stability and associations among microbiome, molecular markers, and clinical features, suggesting their disrupted interaction in metabolic disease. Our study offers comprehensive views of multi-site microbial dynamics and their relationship with host health and disease.

Exercise intensity progressions and criteria to prescribe core stability exercises in young physically active men: a smartphone accelerometer-based study. J Strength Cond Res 38(2): 266-273, 2024-The establishment of core stability (CS) exercise intensity progressions in sport and clinical settings is normally based on subjective criteria. Therefore, this study aimed to develop exercise intensity progressions for some of the most common CS exercises through smartphone accelerometry and to analyze the effect of the subjects' lumbopelvic postural control on these progressions. Fifty-seven healthy young physically active male students performed 7 isometric variations of front bridge, back bridge, side bridge, and bird-dog exercises with a smartphone accelerometer placed on the pelvis. Mean pelvic accelerations were calculated during each variation to evaluate the lumbopelvic postural control challenge imposed on the subjects as an index of exercise intensity of difficulty. For the bridge exercises, long bridging produced higher pelvic accelerations than short bridging, bridging with single-leg support was more intense than bridging with double-leg support (even with both legs on a hemisphere ball for the back and front bridge), and the most difficult variations were those performed on a Swiss ball, mainly the variations with single-leg support. For the bird-dog exercise, the 2-point positions were more intense than the 3-point positions, the variations performed with a knee on the hemisphere ball produced higher pelvic accelerations than similar variations performed with the forearm on the hemisphere ball, and the variations with limb motions generated higher pelvic accelerations than similar variations performed without limb motions. Although the CS exercise progressions were very similar across subjects, our results showed the need to individualize the prescription of the CS exercise progressions based on the subjects' lumbopelvic postural control level.

OBJECTIVE: Low back pain (LBP) is relatively common among the musician population. Few studies have looked at the usefulness of a core stability exercise program in musicians suffering from LBP. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a core stability exercise program on pain and improvement of function in musicians with LBP. METHODS: A total of 41 university-level instrumental musicians with nonspecific LBP who played piano, violin, or cello were randomly allocated to one of two groups in a randomized controlled trial. One person from the control group was lost to follow-up. Thus, 40 participants (23 females and 17 males) completed the study. The intervention group received education and a 12-week core stability exercise program. The control group only received an educational brochure. A visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were used to determine the severity of pain and functional status, respectively. Data were collected by an independent, blinded evaluator at baseline and at 12 and 24 weeks after baseline. RESULTS: The intervention group showed a significant improvement in pain severity on the VAS and functional status on the ODI during all times of follow up, whereas the scores of pain and function worsened in the control group at 24 weeks. Between-group analysis showed significant difference in pain intensity at both weeks 12 and 24 of follow-up. However, for functional status, the difference was only significant after 12 weeks. CONCLUSIONS: A structured core stability exercise program supplemented with an educational brochure was effective to manage LBP in musicians.

The current study aimed to explore the effects of proprioception versus core stability training over 8 weeks on the gait parameters of deaf adolescents. A total of 20 deaf adolescents were randomized into two groups: one group receiving proprioception training (PT, n = 10), another group receiving core stability training (CST, n = 10), and eleven typically developing adolescents assigned into the control group (CON; n = 11). Gait was recorded by two digital cameras; then, using the Kinovea software, the parameters of gait included: gait velocity, cadence, stride length, stride time, stance time, and swing time were calculated in terms of percentages of the walking cycle. After 8 weeks of PT, no significant differences were observed for all gait parameters between PT and control groups (p > 0.05). Also, after 8 weeks of CST, no significant differences were observed in gait velocity and cadence between the CST and control groups (p > 0.05). However, after 8 weeks of CST, stride length (p = 0.02) was higher in the control group; Stride time (p = 0.03), stance time (p = 0.04) and swing time (p = 0.04) were higher in the CST group. Moreover, after 8 weeks of PT, values showed significant improvements in all gait parameters (p = 0.001). Also, after 8 weeks of CST, values showed significant improvements in gait velocity and cadence (p = 0.001), but no significant differences were observed in other gait parameters (p > 0.05). The findings of this study indicated that PT improved all gait parameters, whereas CST improved gait velocity and cadence. The results of the present study also demonstrated that PT had a greater effect on gait parameters of deaf adolescents compared with CST. It seems that PT induces more training effects than CTS for enhancing gait parameters of deaf adolescents.Trial registration: Clinical trial registry number: IRCT20170312033029N2. OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the effect of core stability training on pain, function, quality of life, and posture in individuals with temporomandibular disorder. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Participants were divided into the following: the core stability group and the control group. For pain assessment, the Graded Chronic Pain Scale 2.0; for function, the 20-item Jaw Functional Limitation Scale (JFLS-20); for oral health-related quality of life, Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14); and for posture assessment, the New York Scale were used. Rocabado exercises were applied to the control group. Additionally, spinal stabilization exercises were applied for the core stability group for 6 weeks. RESULTS: Both types of exercise contribute positively to the quality of life associated with oral health. Rocabado exercise provided a significant change in Chronic Pain Intensity and Disability Score. CONCLUSION: Rocabado exercise and core stability training, implemented with Rocabado, provide significant changes in pain values. When evaluated in terms of function, no significant difference was found in both exercise programs. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Core stability training with Rocabado provides significant changes. Core stability is critical for improving athletic performance, reducing injury risks and is one of the most important elements of athletic training. However, the effect of core stability on landing kinetics during aerial skiing remains unclear, making relevant analysis and discussion an urgent issue to address. To enhance core stability training and landing performance aerial athletes, this study proposed a correlation analysis to investigate the effect of core stability on landing kinetics. Previous studies on aerial athletes have overlooked landing kinetics and lacked correlation analyses, leading to unsatisfactory analysis outcomes. The correlation analysis can be integrated with core stability training indices to analyze the effect of core stability on vertical and 360° jump landings. Therefore, this study can provide guidance for core stability training and athletic performance in aerial athletes.

BACKGROUND: Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is a common injury among athletes. Research has reported reduced dorsiflexion range of motion, impairment of proprioception, and decreased muscle strength of the ankle in people with CAI. The aim of this research was to examine the effects of 8-week core stability training on stable and unstable surfaces on ankle muscular strength, proprioception, and dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM) in athletes with CAI. METHODS: Thirty-six athletes with CAI (age 22.42 ± 2.76 years; height 169.11 ± 3.52 cm; weight 68.46 ± 2.75 kg) participated in this study. They were divided into three groups: unstable-surface group (UG) (n = 12), stable-surface group (SG) (n = 12), and control group (CG) (n = 12). The UG and SG performed the core stability exercise protocol for 8 weeks, 3 sessions per week. The CG received their usual care and daily activities. Outcomes were measured pre-sessions and post-sessions. RESULTS: The peak torque showed significant increases in the UG and SG compared with the CG during plantar flexion, dorsiflexion, inversion, and eversion (P < 0.05). There were also significant increases in UG compared with SG (P < 0.05). The proprioception showed significant decreases in UG compared with SG and CG (P < 0.05). The dorsiflexion ROM showed significant increases in UG and SG compared with CG. There were also significant increases in UG compared with SG (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: It seems that core stability exercises on trampoline surface helps improve the measured parameters in athletes with ankle instability. Therefore, this type of training is recommended as a therapeutic option for Individuals with CAI.

Nanomedicine faces the challenges of infinite dilution, shear force, biological protein, or electrolyte competition. However, core cross-linking leads to biodegradability deficiency and brings inevitable side effects of nanomedicine on normal tissues. In order to overcome this bottleneck problem, we turn to amorphous poly(d,l)lactic acid (PDLLA)-dextran bottlebrush to emphasize the core stability of nanoparticles, and the amorphous structure offers an additional advantage of fast degradation property over the crystalline PLLA polymer. The graft density and side chain length of amorphous PDLLA together played important influence roles in controlling the architecture of nanoparticles. This effort produces structure-abundant particles, including micelles, vesicles, and large compound vesicles after self-assembly. Here, the amorphous bottlebrush PDLLA was verified to play a beneficial role in the structure stability and degradability of nanomedicines. The codelivery of the hydrophilic antioxidant of citric acid (CA), vitamin C (VC), and gallic acid (GA) via the optimum nanomedicines could effectively repair the SH-SY5Y cell damage caused by H2O2. The CA/VC/GA combination treatment repaired the neuronal function efficiently, and the cognitive abilities of senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 (SAMP8) recovered.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of technical and core stability parameters on rowing ergometer performance defined as mean power at the handle. Twenty-four high-level rowers were evaluated at their competitive stroke rate on an instrumented RowPerfect 3 ergometer to determine leg, trunk and arm power output, while trunk and pelvis 3D kinematics were measured. Linear mixed models revealed that mean power at the handle was predicted by the power output of legs, trunk and arms (r2 = 0.99), with trunk power being the best predictor. Time to peak power, work ratio and mean to peak power ratio were relevant technical parameters significantly predicting the different segments' power. In addition, a greater trunk range of motion significantly influenced the power produced by this segment. Accordingly, achieving an earlier peak power together with enhanced work production at the trunk and arm levels, as well as distributing the segments power over the whole drive phase, could serve as recommendations for technical training of rowers on dynamic ergometers in order to produce higher power output. Furthermore, the trunk appears to play a major role as a power producer within the kinetic chain from the legs to the arms.

BACKGROUND: Core stability exercise programs have become popular in recent years for preserving balance and functional independence in people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS); however, their real impact is not well-known as the main intervention target (i.e., core stability) theoretically responsible for balance or functional improvements is not measured. The objective of this study was to test the reliability of accelerometers integrated into smartphones for quantifying core stability and developing exercise progressions in PwMS. METHODS: Twenty participants with MS [age: 47.5±8.0 years; height: 1.62±0.07 m; mass: 63.4±10.9 kg; EDSS: 3.0 (1.5-6)] participated voluntarily in this study. CS was assessed in different variations of the front, side, and back bridges and bird-dog exercises by measuring the mean lumbopelvic acceleration in two testing sessions, separated by one week. Relative and absolute reliability of lumbopelvic acceleration of those exercise variations performed by more than 60% of the participants was analyzed by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC3,1), and the standard error of measurement (SEM) and the minimal detectable change (MDC), respectively. Repeated measures ANOVAs were performed to detect a potential learning effect between test-retest assessments. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. RESULTS: Reliability analyses revealed that good to excellent relative and absolute scores (0.850.05). CONCLUSION: Smartphone accelerometry seems a low cost, portable and easy-to-use tool to objectively and reliably track core stability changes in PwMS through. However, in spite of the popularity of bridging and bird-dog exercises, only the short and long bridges and the three-point bird-dog positions proved feasible for most participants. Overall, this study provides useful information to evaluate and guide the prescription of core stability exercise programs in PwMS with mild-to-moderate impairment.

OBJECTIVE: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is the descent of the pelvic organs into or through the vaginal walls. Females who have prolapse have symptoms that interfere with their daily lives, sexual function, and exercise. POP can have a negative effect on one's sexuality and body image. This study attempted to assess the significance of core stability exercises vs. interferential therapy on the power of the pelvic floor muscles in females with prolapsed pelvic organs. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A randomized control trial was conducted on forty participants (aged between 40-60 years, diagnosed with mild degree pelvic organ prolapse participated in the research. Participants were randomly divided into two groups: (group A; n = 20) and (group B; n = 20). The participants were tested twice, before and after 12 weeks, during which group (A) performed core stability exercises while group (B) received interferential therapy. A modified Oxford grading scale and the perineometer were used to assess how the vaginal squeeze pressure changed. RESULTS: The study's findings demonstrated that the modified Oxford grading scale values and vaginal squeeze pressure had a non-statistically significant difference (p-value ≥ 0.05) between both groups pre-treatment while had a statistically significant difference (p-value ≤ 0.05) between both groups post-treatment in favor of group A. CONCLUSIONS: It was concluded that both training programs are efficient at strengthening the pelvic floor muscles, but the core stability exercises were more effective.

OBJECTIVE: Properly-designed exercises and use of different physiotherapeutic modalities have been shown to be useful in the management of patients with non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP). This research examined the effects of Kinesiology taping (KT) and Core-stabilization exercises (CSE) on pain intensity, lumbar range of motion, functional disability, depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance and Kinesiophobia in patients with NSCLBP. DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial. SETTINGS: Two tertiary health facilities. PARTICIPANTS: Thirty-five patients (28 males and 7 females) with NSCLBP were allocated into three groups (KT + CSE, CSE and KT only). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Pain intensity, functional disability, psychological status, sleep disturbance, kinesiophobia and lumbar range of motion (LROM) were assessed. RESULTS: The results revealed reduction in pain intensity, improved functional ability, psychological status (Depression and Anxiety), kinesiophobia, decreased sleep disturbance and increased LROM (P < 0.001) within each of the groups post-intervention. CONCLUSION: All participants had improved clinical outcomes. However, KT + CSE group had better result in all the clinical outcomes. CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRY NUMBER: PACTR201807604459572.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effects of clinical Pilates training on disease-specific indices, core stability, and balance in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients. METHODS: AS patients were randomly assigned to either the Pilates group (PG) or control group (CG). The PG participated in Pilates training 3 times a week for 8 weeks. Patients in the CG were instructed to follow a home exercise program for 8 weeks. Assessments were performed before and after the interventions. BASDAI, BASFI, BASMI, and the AS Quality of Life (ASqOL) questionnaire were used were used to evaluate disease activity, functionality spinal mobility and quality of life respectively. Static core endurance was assessed with trunk flexor, extensor endurance, and lateral bridge tests, while dynamic core endurance was assessed using modified sit-up test. Balance was evaluated with bilateral and unilateral stance static postural stability (PS), bilateral stance dynamic PS and limits of stability (LOS) tests using the Biodex Balance System. RESULTS: Twenty-one patients in the PG and 21 patients in the CG completed the study. PG showed statistically significant improvements in BASDAI, BASFI, BASMI, and ASQoL scores, all core endurance tests, and dynamic PS and LOS results. The CG demonstrated significant improvement only in flexor endurance and LOS results. Post-intervention BASDAI, BASMI, and all core endurance tests were significantly better in the PG than in the CG (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Pilates training has positive effects on disease activity and functional capacity, spinal mobility, core endurance, balance, and quality of life in AS patients. CONTEXT: Core stability training has been recommended as a vital element in improving movement's pattern and athletic performance. The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of 12-week McGill core stability training on movement patterns, shooting accuracy, and throwing performance. DESIGN: Randomized controlled clinical trial. SETTING: University research laboratory. METHODS: Forty male basketball players were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group completed 12-week McGill core stability training, while the control group completed routine exercise training. Patterns of functional movements was measured through functional movement screen (FMS), shooting accuracy measured by static 3-point shooting (S3P) and dynamic 60-second 3-point shooting test, and throwing performance measured by Functional Throwing Performance Index. RESULTS: Comparison revealed that regardless of received training, after 12 weeks both groups showed significant improvement in all outcome measures. However, experimental group had significantly higher post test scores in FMS (P = .02), S3P (P = .007), and dynamic 60-second 3-point shooting test (P = .01). For Functional Throwing Performance Index, there was no group differences (P = .96). The results of follow-up assessments showed for all measurements including FMS (P = .03), S3P (P = .004), dynamic 60-second 3-point shooting test (P < .001), and Functional Throwing Performance Index (P = .005); experimental group had higher scores than the control group. CONCLUSIONS: According to the results, implementing McGill core stability training in basketball routine training would be advisable since significant improvement can be obtained in the measured parameters.

PURPOSE: Children with hearing impairment are unable to speak and may suffer from some physical problems such as weakness in postural performance ability and development. The aim of the current study was to explore the effects of proprioception versus core stability training for an 8-week period followed by a 6-month detraining protocol on the balance performance of deaf students. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a randomized controlled trial design of three groups in blinded evaluators. The study was conducted at the school gym. A total of 30 participants, of male deaf students, were randomized into three groups: (1) one group receiving proprioception training (PT, n = 10), (2), one group receiving core stability training (CST, n = 10) for 8 weeks, and (3), and control group (CON, n = 10). The Balance Error Scoring System (BESS) test and Y-balance test assess static and dynamic balance at pre- and post-training following a 6-month detraining. RESULTS: Post 8 weeks of training intervention, PT and CST values showed significant improvements in both static (p = 0.001) and dynamic (p = 0.001) balance. Following the 6-month detraining, only the PT group maintained their improvements in both the static and dynamic balance tests (p = 0.348) and the CST group showed decreases in the balance tests (p = 0.034). CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that 8 weeks rehabilitation program (PT and CST) is an optimum training modality to enhance balance in deaf students and PT induces more training effects than CST for maintaining training benefits following the detraining. OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy of a five-week core stability training program for collegiate athletes on upper extremity performance measures. METHODS: Seventy healthy collegiate athletes (age 21.6±1.7years; height 175±4.63 cm; body mass 65.31±5.63 kg) were randomly allocated to experimental (n=35) and control group (n=35). The experimental group has undergone a five-week core stabilisation protocol (three days /week) and regular training, whereas the control group maintained their regular training. The upper quarter Y balance test (UQ-YBT) and Functional throwing performance index (FTPI) were assessed pre and post-training. RESULTS: The results of mixed ANOVA show that there was a significant interaction between time and group variables on YBT (p<0.001, ηp2 =0.759) and FTPI (p<0.001, ηp2 =0.411) after five weeks of core stability training. Statistically, significant improvement was shown in YBT (mean change=15.2, p<0.001) and FTPI (mean change=14.4, p<0.001) in the experimental group; however, there was no significant change observed in both outcomes in the control groups. CONCLUSION: After five weeks of core stabilisation training program, the measures of UQ-YBT and FTPI were improved, thus advocating the use of a core stabilisation training program among collegiate athletes to enhance their upper extremity performance.

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of a six-week core stability training program on the fundamental movement pattern assessed using the Functional Movement Screen Test in tennis players. The study group consisted of 160 subjects (74 women, 86 men) with a mean age of 20.26 ± 1.55. The Functional Movement Screen Test (FMS™), as well as the core stability tests including the lateral trunk muscles endurance test (the side bridge test), the abdominal muscles endurance test and the trunk extensors muscle endurance test­were used to evaluate the effects of core stability training. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in the FMS test scores before and after introducing a core stability exercise program. Initially, the average total score of the FMS test in female tennis players was 14.58 ± 2.91, and after core stability training it was 17.20 ± 1.68 (p < 0.001). In the male group, the total FMS test score was 14.44 ± 2.76 before and 16.91 ± 1.36 after (p < 0.001) in the final assessment. Additionally, statistically significant differences were observed in the core stability test scores before and after introducing a stabilisation training program. The results of the study showed that specific core strengthening exercises could improve the FMS test scores in adult tennis players. This may also have an influence on reducing injury risk in this group, although further studies would be required to test this.

Resumen El estudio tiene como propósito analizar la fiabilidad de la prueba de 8 lanzamientos de 3 diferentes variantes de lanzamientos de balonmano en estudiantado universitario. 33 varones, 20 ±1,9 años; peso 72,39±8,9 kg; altura 176,75 ±6,07 cm; IMC 23,14±2,3. Los sujetos participantes fueron evaluados en 2 sesiones separadas entre sí por un lapso de una semana. Ejecutaron lanzamientos hasta quedar registrados 8 mediciones en cada una de las pruebas, lanzamientos inespecíficos, en apoyo y en carrera con 3 pasos, se registró la velocidad de lanzamiento con un radar posterior a la portería. La fiabilidad del promedio de las puntuaciones del test de 8 medidas entre la primera sesión y la segunda con una prueba test-retest, se obtuvieron los siguientes resultados: en el lanzamiento inespecífico se obtuvo un ICC= (0,86) entre el 95% de confianza, un de CV= (7,43%) y un ES= (0,08). Para el lanzamiento con apoyo se obtuvo un ICC= (0,94) al 95 % de confianza, un de CV= (4,71 %) y un ES= (-0,09). Para el lanzamiento con carrera se obtuvo un ICC= (0,96) al 95 % de confianza, un de CV= (4,00 %) y un ES= (0,05). Este estudio ha demostrado que la prueba de 8 lanzamientos y las 3 variantes es una medida de rendimiento confiable y estable para estudiantes de nivel universitario sin experiencia en el balonmano, en relación con las variables del lanzamiento, las 3 fueron fiables, solo la variable inespecífica fue menor en comparación al lanzamiento con apoyo y con carrera.


Abstract This study aims to analyze the reliability of the test of 8 throws of 3 different variants of handball throws in university students. The participants were 33 males, 20 ± 1.9 years; weight 72.39 ± 8.9 kg; height 176.75 ± 6.07 cm; BMI 23.14 ± 2.3. They were evaluated in 2 sessions separated from each other by a period of one week. The participants executed throws until 8 measurements were recorded in each of the tests, unspecific throws, in support and in the race with 3 steps; the launch speed was recorded with a radar behind the goal. The reliability of the average of the test scores of 8 measurements between the first session and the second was measured with a test-retest test. The following results were obtained: in the nonspecific launch, an ICC= (0.86) was obtained between 95% of confidence, one of CV= (7.43%) and one ES = (0.08). For the toss with support, an ICC = (0.94) was obtained at 95% confidence, one of CV = (4.71%) and an ES = (-0.09). For the running throw, an ICC = (0.96) was obtained at 95% confidence, one of CV = (4.00%) and one ES = (0.05). This study has shown that the test of 8 throws and the 3 variants is a reliable and stable performance measure for university-level students without experience in handball; in relation to the throw variables, all 3 were reliable. Only the nonspecific variable was lower compared to the supported and running pitch.


Resumo O estudo tem como objetivo analisar a confiabilidade do teste de 8 arremessos de 3 variantes diferentes de arremessos de handebol em estudantes universitários. 33 homens, 20 ±1,9 anos; peso 72,39±8,9 kg; altura 176,75 ±6,07 cm; IMC 23,14±2,3. Os participantes foram testados em 2 sessões separadas por um lapso de 1 semana. Os participantes executaram arremessos até poder registrar 8 medições em cada um dos testes, arremessos não específicos, com apoio e correndo com 3 passos. A velocidade de arremesso foi registrada com um radar pós-gol. A confiabilidade da média dos resultados dos testes de 8 medições entre a primeira sessão e a segunda com um teste de retorno, deu os seguintes resultados: no teste de lançamento não específico, foi obtido um ICC= (0,86) com 95% de confiança, um CV= (7,43%) e um ES= (0,08). Para o lançamento apoiado obtivemos um ICC= (0,94) a 95% de confiança, um CV= (4,71%) e um ES= (-0,09). Para o arremesso de corrida obtivemos um ICC= (0,96) a 95% de confiança, um CV= (4,00%) e um ES= (0,05). Este estudo mostrou que o teste de 8 lances e as 3 variantes é uma medida de desempenho confiável e estável para estudantes universitários sem experiência em handebol. Em relação às variáveis de arremesso, todas as 3 foram confiáveis, apenas a variável não específica foi menor em comparação com o arremesso com suporte e com corrida.

Objective: Thoracolumbar vertebral compression fractures (TVCF) are caused by anterior flexion or vertical downward violence to the spine (Sezer et al. 2021). This study is aimed at investigating the effect of core stability training (CST) on unstable support surfaces in the postoperative rehabilitation of TVCF in the elderly. Methods. Ninety-eight patients with TVCF who underwent surgical treatment in our hospital from July 2021 to April 2022 were selected as study subjects. Then, they were divided into a research group receiving unstable support surface CST and a control group with conventional rehabilitation training according to the random number table method. Before and after the training, the X-ray machine was positioned and the anterior margin and middle height ratio and the posterior convex Cobb angle of the injured vertebrae were observed, and the balance detector was used to detect patients' eye opening and closing trajectory length, Romberg rate, and to perform gait test. Patients' pain, lumbar spine function, and quality of life were subsequently assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Oswestry Dysfunction Index (ODI), Generic Quality of Life Inventory-74 (GQOL-74), and patient satisfaction with rehabilitation was investigated. Results. After rehabilitation training, there was no statistically marked difference in eye-opening trajectory length between both groups (P > 0.05). The research group had higher scores than the control group in all dimensions of the anterior border of the injured vertebra, middle height ratio, and GQOL-74, while the posterior convex Cobb angle, closed-eye trajectory length, Romberg rate, VAS, and ODI were lower than the control group (P < 0.05). The research group also revealed better gait improvement and higher rehabilitation satisfaction than the control group after training (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Unstable support surface CST can effectively improve postoperative vertebral body rehabilitation, balance function, gait, pain conditions, and lumbar spine function in elderly TVCF patients, and enhance their quality of life and rehabilitation satisfaction. This trial is registered with ChiCTR2000014547.

(1) Background: The amount of physical activity most adults perform is less than the recommended amount, and the resulting decrease in physical strength makes them vulnerable to various diseases. A decrease in muscle size and strength due to damage caused by disease or aging negatively affects functional strength. Muscle evaluation in adults can yield results that are predictive indicators of aging and unexpected disability. In addition, balance ability is essential to prevent falls and injuries in daily life and maintain functional activities. It is important to develop and strengthen balance in the lower extremities and core muscles to maintain and enhance overall body balance. This study aimed to analyze the effects of core balance training on muscle tone and balance ability in adults. (2) Methods: The participants of this study were 32 adult male and female university students (male: mean age = 21.3 ± 1.9 years, weight = 74.2 ± 12.6 kg, BMI = 23.4 + 2.5, n = 14; female: mean age = 21.0 ± 1.4 years, weight = 64.6 + 1.2 kg, BMI = 22.4 ± 2.4, n =18). Thirty-two adults (training group: 16, control group: 16; male: 16, female: 16) participated in the Myoton PRO (gastrocnemius lateral/medial, tibialis anterior), Pedalo balance system, and Y-balance test. (3) Results: The following results were obtained for muscle elasticity, stiffness, and dynamic/static balance ability after 10 weeks of core balance training. 1. There was no significant difference in muscle elasticity (gastrocnemius lateral/medial, tibialis anterior) (p < 0.05). 2. Muscle stiffness (gastrocnemius lateral/medial, tibialis anterior) significantly increased (p < 0.05). 3. Dynamic/static balance ability significantly increased (p < 0.05). (4) Conclusions: In future, data for the age and sex of various participants, should be accumulated by recruiting participants to study muscle characteristics, such as muscle elasticity and stiffness. Estimating the appropriate injury range and optimal exercise capacity is possible through follow-up studies. The findings can then be used as a basis for predicting injuries or determining and confirming the best time to resume exercise.
